Quinn postpones deadline for action on U of I trustees
Gov. Pat Quinn says the standoff involving the remaining two trustees of the University of Illinois will be resolved by Monday when classes begin.
Quinn said in Chicago Thursday that students deserve a solution quickly. But he wouldn't give details about how he'll handle the two trustees who haven't resigned.
Quinn wouldn't say whether he would fire James Montgomery and Frances Carroll if they haven't stepped down by Monday. Another trustee has said the two don't plan to resign.
Quinn said late last week that he would act "with finality" this week with regard to the trustees.
A state commission he appointed this summer to review politically influenced admissions at the university has recommended all trustees resign.
