Cronkite explains the 20th century
"Cronkite Remembers"
When TV news icon Walter Cronkite died last month, America lost one of its great treasures.
For those who are not familiar with his talent and life comes this three-DVD set in which Cronkite invites us into his living room for a personal retrospective into the historical events of the 20th Century. He was a great storyteller, and this program lets us see the family side of Cronkite, as well as historic film clips, newsreels and photos from the CBS News Archives, the Library of Congress and many other sources.
A vast number of subjects are covered, including the sinking of the Titanic, women getting the right to vote, World War II, The Cold War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam, the Civil Rights movement, the resignation of Richard Nixon and more.
"Becoming Barack: Evolution of a Leader"
This new Barack Obama documentary shows us the early path of a new leader, who was destined to make history as the nation's first black president. We get to see interviews and never-before-seen footage from 1993, introducing viewers to a community organizer who was teaching constitutional law at the University of Chicago and had not yet decided to run for public office. The DVD shares an interview after Obama was elected president of the Harvard Law Review and a TV news story about his early success in the community.
Included are personal photos and interviews with family and friends who share personal memories. This is a uniquely insightful program in which you will learn about the foundation and philosophy that led Barack Obama to the presidency.
"Tyson"
Boxer Mike Tyson is as famous for his actions outside the ring as his fights within. Filmmaker James Toback, a good friend of Tyson's, allows him to speak for himself through the film. This is a no-holds film in which Tyson talks candidly about his upbringing in a crime-ridden, poverty-stricken section of Brooklyn, where you either die young or go to prison. He was rescued by trainer Cus D'Amato, who taught him about life and discipline. He also set him on his way to becoming one of the greatest heavyweight champions in history.
Through a mixture of interviews, archival footage and photographs, we see how Mike Tyson developed and examine his self-hatred. Although violent at times, the film is also touching and moving. You will also see a man who had it all, and threw it all away.
