Biggert betrays public trust

Per the Herald Aug. 13 article, "Biggert fans health-care flames," U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert was willing to acknowledge that her flier warning that the proposed health care reform bill "requires end-of-life counseling for seniors that might encourage them to give up when facing a serious illness" was "a little inflammatory."

Actually, it was a lie.

According to the Herald, Biggert also admitted her flier was "a bit over the top" but that she could understand why seniors are scared.

Seniors are scared precisely because of the lies propounded by Biggert and her ilk. The only plausible motivation for "seizing on" (as the Herald put it) the end-of-care provision and passing it around as an intent to establish "death panels" is that there are no other persuasive arguments against the bill that most citizens will accept.

Illinois needs a Republican with integrity, someone who will stand up to his or her party's nonsense. Clearly, Biggert does not fill that role.
