Great America hosts talent show for new movie 'Fame'

So you think you've got talent?

You might be able to win $5,000 in cash, a spread in OK! magazine and a trip to Hollywood by auditioning for the "Fame" National Talent Search Saturday, Aug. 22, at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee. Registration takes place from 9 a.m. to noon.

MGM Pictures launched the talent search to coincide with the Sept. 25 release of its remake of the popular 1980 musical "Fame," all about students at New York's Academy of Performing Arts. Original star Debbie Allen returns to lead a cast that includes Kelsey Grammer, Bebe Neuwirth and Megan Mullally.

The top 10 performers from Saturday's tryouts move onto the semifinals on Sunday, Aug. 23, when a performance by V-Factory with actor Asher Book will take place. Local judges include Billy Dec, David Viggiano from WFLD-TV, Channel 32 and DJ Rebecca Ortiz from B96.

Seven finalists (six Six Flags winners and one MySpace winner) will fly to Los Angeles to compete in the finals at Six Flags Magic Mountain Sept. 5.

Best of all, the winner's final performance will be included on the eventual "Fame" DVD. Go to generationfame.com for details.
