Man drowns in Harrisburg city lagoon

HARRISBURG -- Authorities in southern Illinois' Saline County are investigating a man's weekend drowning death in a Harrisburg city park's lagoon.

Coroner Randy Reed says 51-year-old Kevin Hodge drowned Saturday while at a picnic celebrating a friend's birthday.

Reed says family members said Hodge knew how to swim, but that friends cautioned him against swimming in the lagoon to cool down.

The coroner is awaiting results of toxicology tests that could determine whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the drowning.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
