Investigation into Libertyville shooting continues
More information might be available today on the events surrounding the fatal shooting of a man by a Libertyville police officer, officials said.
Libertyville and Lake County Major Crimes Task Force officers continued to work on the case Sunday. Spencer Foutes, 23, was killed about 6 a.m. Saturday after he pointed a handgun at officers called to a domestic disturbance at a townhouse in the 900 block of Cali Court on Libertyville's south side, authorities said.
Libertyville police Lt. Scott Fabbri said he did not expect any details about what happened to be provided the public until today at the earliest. Toxicology tests on Foutes were expected to be available today from the Lake County coroner's office.
The Lake County Major Crime Task Force was called in to probe the shooting that happened in the Riva Ridge subdivision. One of the task force investigators declined to comment Sunday and referred questions to Libertyville police.
Authorities said the officer, who was placed on administrative leave pending completion of the investigation, shot Foutes once in the chest. Police said Foutes, his mother and a friend of his had been living at the townhouse since May.
