SciTech adds new exhibit

"Dorothy," the famous storm-chasing truck, is about to become the centerpiece of a new weather exhibit to open in late October at the SciTech Hands On Science Center in downtown Aurora. The truck's owner, Eddie Weiss, will turn it over to Executive Director Shawn Carlson in ceremonies at 1 p.m. Wednesday outside the museum at 18 W. Benton. The 1992 Chevy S-10 Blazer has been the lead chase vehicle for Weiss's Chasing4Life organization and includes onboard weather monitoring equipment as well as video equipment that allows the driver to upload to television newsrooms. It has appeared with Weiss on hundreds of television broadcasts.

Aurora nabs speeders

Aurora police arrested seven people and issued 226 citations and 26 warnings in recent weeks as part of a crackdown aimed primarily at speeders. An additional operation aimed at seat-belt compliance resulted in 127 citations and eight arrests. The details were conducted in areas where police observe and receive frequent complaints of speeding. The department is focusing part of its efforts this year on reducing the number of traffic accidents in the city.
