Can government handle health care?

The recent rush to thrust government-run health care upon us has many of us deeply concerned. As for me personally, I readily acknowledge that the system is in need of repair. However, rushing to implement an extremely expensive system without thoroughly exploring the effects it will have on this and future generations is reckless!

We need to explore and implement efficiencies in the delivery of care and benefits. We need to review tort reform, so medical practitioners can worry about the care of their patients rather than the exposure to a lawsuit. We need the government to pay its bills to the providers in a timely manner. We need to make it feasible to insure everyone, including those with pre-existing conditions. We need legislation to address those who choose not to pay for insurance, thus sticking the rest of us with the cost of their care.

Do we want the same bureaucrats who knowingly erased the tapes of the original moon landing to be responsible for heath-care decisions? Do we want the admission to a hospital or medical care for a loved one to be subject to our clout with some government official?

If you share these concerns, let your legislators know it! Health-care reform does not need to be accomplished on some arbitrary timetable. It needs to be the result of thoughtful and complete review and discussion. It needs the active participation of all of our elected officials, plus representatives of all those in the health-care field.
