Ministry hosts day of fun:
H.E.L.P.S. Ministry will host "Meet in the Street and Eat '09" from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday at The HELPS Ministry Community Center, 6N539 Tuscola, St. Charles. At this old-fashioned revival, with the theme "God's Stimulus Plan," come say goodbye to summertime with live music, 3-on-3 basketball, face painting, clowns, games, attractions, contests, food, a late night movie with popcorn and more. See the Viking ship 1893 replica from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Good Templar Park, 528 Eastside Drive, Geneva. Friends of the Viking Ship will describe the ship's voyage from Norway to the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children 13 to 17, and free for children 12 and younger.
Historic baseball in Geneva:
The Geneva Rovers will play the Batavia Bat Men in a 19th-century-style baseball game at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Park, 710 Western Ave., Geneva. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children and members, with all proceeds benefiting the Geneva History Center.
Soccer registration on:
Fox Valley Park District is accepting registration for the Kickers Soccer Club Saturday Youth League that begins play in the fall. The league is for children in kindergarten through sixth grade, with children grouped by age on coed teams. Games are played on Saturdays, Sept. 12 to Oct. 24, at the Stuart Sports Complex on Jericho Road in Aurora. Fees are $50 to park district residents, $65 for nonresidents, $125 per family of three or more for residents, and $170 per family of three or more for nonresidents. The registration deadline is Saturday. Registration forms are available at any of the district's community centers and can be downloaded at kickerssoccerclub.org. What a pickle:
The 1843 Durant House Museum will offer "Pickling Parties" from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday and Aug. 30 in the LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve in St. Charles. Learn what cooks did to safely preserve foods in eras without refrigeration. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children 3 to 12 years. Library lot closed:
The Messenger Public Library parking lots are under construction this month to add 16 spaces. Parking is available next door at New Hope Lutheran Church, just west of the library on Oak Street, North Aurora. Work should conclude Sept. 3.
