Traffic stop uncovers 400 pounds of pot

CAIRO -- A man is in custody in southern Illinois after the pickup truck he was driving was found to be hauling 400 pounds of marijuana.

A Cairo police sergeant made the discovery Thursday after stopping the truck for speeding on Interstate 57.

Police say the truck's driver ran away and made his way to a truck stop, where he got a ride. He was caught a few hours later.

Police say the marijuana was wrapped in a dozen or so brick-like packages weighing from roughly five to 65 pounds.

The truck's driver was arrested, but there's no word yet on any charges.
