Aurora Navy League to hold dinner

The Aurora Navy League will hold its monthly dinner meeting Aug. 18. The meeting will be held in the private room at the Fireside Grill Restaurant, 49 Sugar Lane, Sugar Grove. The Fireside Grill is on Route 47 just south of Route 30. It is near I-88, the Ronald Reagan Tollway. Its Web site, with directions, is www.thefiresidegrillesugargrove.com.

A reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m. . The dinner includes a choice of seven entrees, salad, vegetables, potato, dessert, and nonalcoholic drink. Dinner cost, including tip, is $18 per person. A cash bar is available.

The after-dinner speaker is Captain Leonard Wass, USN (Ret.), CEO of the Wass Consulting Group Inc. Wass will be speaking on "The Truths Underlying the Current U.S. Economy & Prospects for Recovery." A Q&A session will follow the presentation.

Captain Wass holds a bachelor of science degree from the US Naval Academy, and an MBA in Finance & International Business from the University of Chicago, where he studied under the Nobel Prize-winning economics faculty. Later, he taught economics at Moraine Valley Community College. He has had a distinguished 35-year management consulting career, serving the CEOs and boards of the nation's largest electric and gas utilities as well as government agencies. In addition, he was a nuclear submarine officer in his 25 years of active and reserve service.

You do not need to be a member of the Navy League to attend the meeting; the general public is welcome. The Navy League is a civilian organization started by President Theodore Roosevelt to provide civilian support the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine and Sea Cadets.
