Free ice cream:
The Geneva Public Library and the Geneva History Center will have the "We're Wild About Geneva" free ice cream social from 6 to 8 tonight on the lawn of the Kane County Courthouse, 100 S. Third St. Highlights include presentations by Willowbrook Wildlife Center about "Two Kane County Snakes You Should Know" at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m., as well as face painting and balloon creatures courtesy of Around the Town Entertainment. Free tests during fest:
The South Elgin Leos Club will be sponsoring free vision and hearing tests during Riverfest Express in South Elgin. Vision screenings will take place from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday inside village hall. Hearing tests will be given from 4 to 6 p.m. in the screening bus in front of village hall. If you have questions, call Angie De Leon at (847) 888-9575.
Cancer rock show:
"Jam For a Cure," to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, is at 3 p.m. Saturday at Polivka's Groovy Farm, 39W462 Seavey Road, Batavia. Local bands including Jykes, Disbarre and Flavor will perform. Tickets are $40 for adults, $20 for ages 11 to 20 and free to those 10 and younger. Solheim traffic plan:
In preparation for next week's Solheim Cup golf tournament, the Kane County Sheriff's Department has posted a traffic plan on its Web site, kanesheriff.com. Click on the "2009 Solheim Cup" tab on the home page. The tournament is at Rich Harvest Farms on Dugan Road in Sugar Grove. During the event there will be signage on the routes and the Illinois State Police will direct traffic.
Parks group seeks one:
The Batavia Parks Foundation has an opening on its board of directors. It is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to improving and expanding Batavia's parks and green spaces. To apply, submit a letter of interest, including prior civic experience, to Batavia Parks Foundation, c/o Mike Clark, 327 W. Wilson St., Batavia, IL 60510 by 5 p.m. Sept. 1.
