Cops: Carpentersville man resisted arrest, insulted cop's family
A Carpentersville man faces charges of threatening a public official - a felony - and resisting a peace officer after a routine police call Tuesday got ugly.
Carpentersville police reports said officers went to Versile C. Wilbourn's home in the 700 block of Navajo Drive at 4:33 p.m. in response to a loud music complaint and he argued about the music, refused to provide his name and to show identification.
When an officer said Wilbourn, 29, would be arrested on charges of obstruction, Wilbourn yelled at the officer, insulted the officer's family and said he wanted to box with the officer in the backyard, reports said.
"Wait till you take that badge off, I'm gonna whoop your (rear end)," he said, according to reports. "You gotta leave work sometime."
Reports said the officer asked Wilbourn to be quiet and that Wilbourn ignored the officer's instructions to get into the squad car. Eventually, he was pushed into the squad.
During a bond call proceeding Wednesday morning, Wilbourn said he didn't understand why he was in trouble.
"I've been framed for something I didn't do," he told Kane County Judge Karen Simpson.
Wilbourn was unable to post the $2,000 required to get out of jail and was being transported to the Kane County lockup.
His next court date is Aug. 24 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
He could spend between two and five years in prison if found guilty of the felony charge.
