I've made my budget cuts, too
This is in response to an article in the Daily Herald written by James Fuller referencing the Kane County budget.
In the article Mr. Fuller's language indicates that Coroner Chuck West is the only elected official who has made the cuts requested. The article goes on to say that as of right now, he is the only elected (department head) not to be called into a public meeting to explain to the board and taxpayers why the cuts have not yet been made.
Since the electeds are continuously referred to as a specific group, I want to set the record straight.
There are several elected officials who reduced their budgets when the request was first made. The names of these officials are never mentioned, but are grouped along with those who have not complied.
While I am not scheduled to go before the public hearing, I want to talk about reductions in the recorder's office. Head count is down from 33 to 15; the second floor of Building C was returned to the county and is now being built out for use by 911 and OEM; a 1.8-percent reduction was made earlier this year when we were asked to reduce by 1.5 percent; and I was one of the first elected officials to comply with the 5.5-percent reduction request.
