Quinn signs environmentally friendly bills
Gov. Pat Quinn has signed legislation that he says will benefit the environment.
Quinn on Monday signed one bill that prohibits health care institutions from flushing medicines that haven't been used into public wastewater systems. Any violators would have to pay a fine. Another bill tracks how much water is used by high capacity wells throughout Illinois and requires anyone who wants to develop a well to notify the local Soil and Water Conservation District.
The governor says the new laws "will help us preserve our waterways for future generations."
Quinn also signed legislation that urges state agencies to hire services or buy supplies that are more environmentally friendly.
