Organic chefs cooking at Libertyville Farmers Market

Cooking demonstrations by organic chefs will continue this week and next at MainStreet Libertyville's Farmers Market.

At 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, Sharon Scott will be the featured chef. Scott is a graduate of the esteemed Kendall College School of Culinary Arts. She owns and operates a personal chef business, Prairie Girl Kitchen, which emphasizes the use of the freshest possible ingredients. The company operates in the North Shore area.

Melissa Ritter, a chef, educator, and consultant committed to working with seasonal, sustainable food, will return to the farmers market at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20. Ritter co-founded and runs the award-winning Farm to Table program at Prairie Crossing Charter School, and teaches at the Chicago Botanic Garden and various venues around the greater Chicago area. She also works as a private chef and caterer, focusing on local and sustainable produced food.

The Libertyville Farmers Market has 28 vendors selling items such as organic vegetables, fresh baked breads, just-picked produce of all kinds, fresh fruits, French baguettes, kettle corn, just-baked pies, made-to-order crepes, fudge, fresh cut flowers, organic pet treats, Mirai sweet corn and more.

The Libertyville Farmers Market is open every Thursday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Church Street between Milwaukee Avenue and Brainerd.
