Little leaguer wins chance to throw first pitch at Cougars game

A local little leaguer won the South Elgin Little League Writing Contest, beating out six other finalists.

David Kluchey, 12, was the grand prize winner of the first contest, receiving the honor of throwing out a ceremonial first pitch at the Kane County Cougars game on Tuesday, Aug. 11. He also won a four-pack of tickets for his family.

The contest, presented by State Bank of Illinois in South Elgin and the Kane County Cougars, asked any member of the Little League to write an essay of 50 words or less describing what baseball means to them.

"This was a great opportunity to give back to our community," said Guy Rallo, State Bank of Illinois assistant vice president and branch sales manager. "Each essay really shows the appreciation and passion they have for playing baseball."

Finalists were selected from each little league age level, receiving a $25 gift certificate.

According to Rallo, the kids wrote about the joy of playing baseball, how little league gives them the opportunity to learn to play as a team, gain friendship, and above all, get outside.
