Jam For a Cure benefits Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
"Peace, Love, and Fundraising" is the theme of Jam For a Cure, a summer event to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The date for Jam For a Cure coincides with the 40th anniversary of the renowned Woodstock Music Festival. It will also be held in a farm setting on the very same weekend. The all-day jam and barbecue will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at Polivka's Groovy Farm, 39W462 Seavey Road, Batavia.
Jam For A Cure will feature live music by local bands including Jykes, Disbarred, Flavor, The Tourists, and Random Acts of Jazz. Guests will enjoy a Hawaiian-style barbecue, cool libations, the Most Authentic Hippie contest, tye-dye T-shirts, games, and more. Tents, chairs, and tables will provide comfort, shelter, and a groovy time for all; rain, mud, or shine. Rose-colored glasses, peace signs, headbands, and bell-bottoms are welcome attire for those who wish to participate.
Jam For A Cure is organized by a group of local sailing friends who have been fundraising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society since 1999. To date, the grassroots group has raised more than $200,000 for the organization, which is committed to finding a cure and supporting those affected by blood-born cancers.
Tickets are $40 for adults and $20 for ages 20 and younger. Families are welcome to bring children under 10 at no charge. For tickets, mail checks payable to "Leukemia and Lymphoma Society" to Jam For A Cure, 737 Independence Ave., Elburn, IL 60119. For details, call Brad or Debbi at (630) 365-1491.
