Lisle gets grant money

Lisle officials say they will receive $249,668 in federal funding for sidewalk installation as part of the Safe Routes to School grant program. Officials say they'll use the money to install a sidewalk in the neighborhood surrounding Tate Woods Elementary School and replace an existing dirt path at Schiesher Elementary School.

Chicago Avenue closing

Utility work will force Naperville to close Chicago Avenue from Julian to Charles streets today and Tuesday, city officials said. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes to avoid delays. The road will reopen with one lane in each direction by the end of the day Tuesday. Traffic will be detoured from Charles Street to North Avenue. From there, motorists can travel on either southbound Columbia Street or northbound Julian Street.

Jazz instructor receives grant

Benedictine University jazz piano instructor Josh Moshier has received a grant through the Chamber Music America's New Jazz Works: Commissioning and Ensemble Development program that he will use to compose a work inspired by Studs Terkel's memoir, "Touch and Go." The memoir has been characterized as a medley of the extraordinary characters Terkel encountered throughout his career, from the unknown loners of his youth to New Deal politicians and famous sports figures. Moshier will work The Moshier-Lebrun Collective, a quartet he co-leads with saxophonist Mike Lebrun, to capture the spirit of Turkel's colorful career, his passion for truth and his zest for life in five self-contained songs. Another Benedictine faculty member, jazz guitarist John Moulder, also will participate.
