Runners take off at the start of the Bob Leonard 5K Run Saturday. The event is named in honor of a leader for numerous riverfront projects in the city.

The bus was provided by the St. Charles School District 303 and joined over 20 other trucks and big vehicles at the event. Nora's mother, Mary Lynn, called her daughter a "fearless daredevil" as she was game to climb into everything. Her older brother, Joseph, 3 had a much more cautious approach.

Elgin Fire Lt. John Harris accepts donations from passers-by Friday at Liberty and Summit streets. Harris was out as part of the Elgin Firefighters Local 439 annual boot drive to help Jerry's Kids and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Firefighters will be out collecting donations each Friday this month.
