Prisoner who escaped transport van recaptured in South suburbs
A criminal suspect who escaped from custody Saturday night in Will County was recaptured Sunday, authorities said.
Walter Wilson had escaped from a private firm's prisoner-transport van about 10:45 p.m. Saturday while on I-57 at Manhattan-Monee Road near Monee, Illinois State Police said.
Wilson, of Chicago, was recaptured in South suburban Richton Park after someone saw him walking in jail-issue shackles and called police, state police Sgt. Bill Fuentes said.
Wilson is charged in Mississippi with discharging a firearm into a house and was headed back there when he escaped, Fuentes said.
He had been in Cook County jail before being picked up by the North Atlantic Extradition Service, a Mississippi firm, Fuentes said.
He escaped from that company's van, police said.
No other details were immediately available.
