What Would Andy Griffith Do?
Deeply pained?
This is the response of a police commissioner over a minor incident and an off-the-cuff comment by the president.
All the horrific things in this world and poor behavior by two grown men - Crowley and Gates - caused deep pain for a police commissioner. I am sure that the president will think twice about getting himself involved in such pettiness in the future.
No crime was committed unless upsetting each other is now a prosecuting offense. I'm sorry, but I would like to think that most people would believe that arresting a man in his own home, who obviously felt insulted, just because you didn't like his attitude, is over the top. This is where the president's word of "stupidly" comes in and stings.
If I were to guess at the problem of these men, it was race sensitivity for Harvard University scholar Henry Louis Gates and a power issue for police Sgt. James Crowley. In fact, I am sure he would extend the same courtesy to any human being that pushed his buttons.
It is always fun to put TV Sheriff Andy Griffith at the scene. I am sure that no arrests would have been made. He was way too cool to get his feathers ruffled.
