Mane Event is warmup to main event

Whether or not you're going to the Arlington Million race at Arlington Park Saturday, you're invited to celebrate today at the Mane Event.

Billed as the "Million Dollar Block Party," the popular event with free admission usually attracts about 10,000 people to downtown Arlington Heights.

It all runs 4:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the corner of Vail Avenue and Campbell Street.

Children's events include pony rides, a jump house, balloon twisters and the bouncy Pony Racer game.

An expo organized by the Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce will showcase area businesses and organizations as well as food from local restaurants.

There's also a full lineup of musical entertainment on the stage at Harmony Park:

• 4:30 to 5:10 p.m.: original music by Franco Campanella.

• 5:30 to 6 p.m.: The Metropolis Rock Band.

• 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.: Metropolis Youth Symphony.

• 8 to 10:30 p.m.: Libido Funk Circus playing '80s hits.

The Arlington Heights Special Events Commission and Arlington Park sponsor the celebration.
