St. Charles

• Eva Hernandez, 45, of the 500 block of Fremont Street in West Chicago, was arrested July 9 on charges of retail theft, police said. Kohl's department store security observed Hernandez take a pair of black, plastic Vera Wang sunglasses from a sales area, tear off the price tag, put them on her head and leave the store without paying for them. The value of the sunglasses is estimated at $36.

• About 35 CDs, a set of golf clubs and a racquetball racquet were stolen from a car parked on the 1200 block of King James Avenue on July 24. An iPod and a pair of Ran Ban sunglasses were stolen from a car parked on the 3700 block of King Charles Lane between July 23 and July 24. The thief got in through an unlocked door. The items had a total value of about $370. Police believe the two thefts may be related.

• Sloane Merdinger, 18, of the 32W300 block of Army Trail Road in Wayne, was arrested July 24 on charges of retail theft, police said. Von Maur store security told police they saw Merdinger take two shirts and a pair of boxer shorts into a fitting room and leave with the items in a handbag. She was stopped outside the store.

• A faucet head was broken at Rotary Park in St. Charles on July 25. A neighbor observed three teenagers playing in the water and screaming before she called the police. The cost of the repairs was not included in the police report.

Batavia

• Cobra radar and laser detectors and an XM radio receiver were stolen out of two vehicles in the 900 block of Lund Avenue, it was reported at 11:05 p.m. Aug. 4. The burglars smashed windows.

• A battery charger for a snowmobile was stolen out of a vehicle in the 400 block of Taubert Avenue, it was reported at 4:34 a.m. Aug. 3.

• Five dollars in change was taken out of an unlocked vehicle in the 1500 block of Charleston Street, it was reported at 7:04 a.m. Aug. 3.

• A garage door opener in an unlocked car was used to enter a garage in the 1100 block of Pine Street. The burglar took a miter saw. It was reported at 9:01 a.m. Aug. 3.

• A garage door opener was stolen out of an unlocked car in the 1000 block of Woodland Hills Road, it was reported at 10:44 a.m. Aug. 3.

• A file cabinet was stolen out of the trunk of a vehicle in the 0-99 block of Barton Trail, it was reported at 12:14 p.m. Aug. 3.

• A total of $8 in change was stolen out of two unlocked vehicles in the 1500 block of Patch Avenue. The thefts were reported at 8:28 and 8:46 p.m. Aug. 3.

• A wooden handmade jewelry box was stolen from a resident's quarters at Heritage Woods assisted living facility, 1079 E. Wilson St., it was reported at 8:10 a.m. Aug. 2.

• A burglar smashed a passenger-side window on a vehicle and stole a purse, in a lot in the 500 block of North Randall Road, it was reported at 4:51 p.m. Aug. 1.

• Someone poured mustard in and on a vehicle in the 1100 block of Crestview, it was reported at 6:56 p.m. July 31.
