Tri-Cities briefs
False alarms targeted
The City of Batavia has updated its fine structure for false alarm transmissions. Businesses and residents who have alarm systems are required to obtain a city free permit annually. The police and fire departments will respond twice annually, apiece, to false alarms without charging a fine. After that, fines progress from $50 for the third, $100 for the fourth, $200 for fifth through ninth and $300 for the 10th. Failure to obtain a permit is a $200 fine. For details, call Kathy Wilson at the police department, (630) 454-2500.
Brothers organize talent show
Two Aurora brothers and 60 of their friends will take the stage in a Kids Talent Show at 6:30 tonight at Naperville's 95th Street Library, 3015 Cedar Glade Drive. The show benefiting the Fox Valley United Way has been planned and coordinated by 12-year-old Sriram Katragadda and his 10-year-old brother, Santan. The brothers have raised $1,500 in ticket sales and donations and hope for a total of $2,000. The show grew out of a family trip to India last summer. "We saw a lot of people who were homeless and in need, so I decided to help people in my community who were in need," Sriram said. The brothers, who attend Indian Prairie Unit District 204's Fischer Middle School in Aurora, will emcee the event. Tickets, available at the door or at Fox Valley United Way's office at 40 W. Downer Place, Aurora, are $3 each or $10 for a family of four. For details, contact (630) 896-4636, ext. 102.
