Cubs release B.J. Ryan

Veteran left-handed reliever B.J. Ryan was granted his release from the Cubs' Iowa club. The Cubs signed the former Toronto Blue Jays closer in late July after he was let go by the Jays.

In five games at Iowa, Ryan was 0-0, pitching 52/3 scoreless innings. Apparently neither his velocity nor his command was major-league ready.

The Cubs also released left-handed reliever Jason Waddell, who saw time with the big-league club this year.
