Lake County police search for BB gun vandals who damaged cars

Lake Villa and Lindenhurst police departments are adding extra patrols in an effort to find the vandals who used BB guns to shoot out windows of about 35 parked vehicles.

"We're conducting extra patrols as a precaution while we're working the case," said Lake Villa Police Chief Ron Roth.

The windows of about 18 vehicles were hit in Lindenhurst and unincorporated Lake County, and another 15 in the Painted Lakes subdivision at Deep Lake and Grass Lake roads in Lake Villa.

Police believe the criminal damage to property started about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and ended about 3 a.m. Wednesday. Roth said nothing was taken from the vehicles, which were mainly SUVs and minivans.

He added the suspects were most likely driving in a car while conducting the crimes.

Police say they have several leads in the case.

"We're taking this very seriously," Roth said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Lake Villa Police Department at (847) 356-6106.
