Sox honor Wise, Castro along with Buehrle
The White Sox opened their "Mark Buehrle Appreciation Series" against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night at U.S. Cellular Field.
In addition to giveaways commemorating Buehrle's perfect game against the Tampa Bay Rays on July 23 and special ticket pricing, the Sox also honored two other players, Ramon Castro and Dewayne Wise, involved in the historic achievement.
Castro caught Buehrle's gem, just the 18th perfect game in major-league history, and Wise made a great catch in the ninth inning to preserve it.
On Tuesday, the Sox unveiled a new addition to the outfield fence. At the top of the wall in left-center, "THE CATCH," marks the spot where Wise helped preserve history.
Did Wise make the greatest catch off all time?
"At the moment, I didn't realize how big it would be in baseball history," Wise said Tuesday. "But the more and more I watch it, and the more and more I listen to what people say, everybody has their own opinion, but with the circumstances and the type of catch it was, you have to rank it up there as one of the top catches ever."
Jenks out again: Bobby Jenks was not available for Tuesday's game, and the closer could miss a few more games as he continues to battle kidney stones.
Jenks was taken to Rush University Medical Center on Tuesday afternoon in an attempt to resolve the problem.
"Hopefully the physical problem is out in the next couple days, hopefully today," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "We'll see what happens. We've been waiting for a week and he's not getting better. That's why we sent him to the hospital."
Ramirez getting better: Alexei Ramirez (sprained right ankle) was held out of the starting lineup for the fifth straight game Tuesday, but the shortstop looked good while taking groundballs during batting practice and could be back Wednesday night.
The quote: Manager Ozzie Guillen was asked about Mark Buehrle being honored during the three-game series against the Angels.
"After the way he threw (Sunday), we shouldn't do anything for him," Guillen said.
Buehrle started against the New York Yankees on Sunday and allowed 7 runs on 12 hits over 41/3 innings.
