Don't sweat health care reform attempts
Fence Post writer P.J. Bertrand needs to relax. Bertrand is quite worried about the implications of President Obama's attempts to reform health care. Not to worry, it appears to be increasingly unlikely that any meaningful health-care reform will occur. This is thanks in large part to a very well-funded campaign of misinformation spearheaded by the insurance and pharmaceutical industries (Reported to be 1.4 million dollars per day).
They have been targeting the elderly, and their efforts appear to be getting results. Couple this with politicians of both parties seduced by the siren's song of big money, and you have established a solid foundation to maintain the status quo.
True, many more people will be denied coverage and either go bankrupt or die as a consequence, but the important thing is that we can maintain profits and CEO salaries in the hundred of millions. So don't worry: The government won't be making decisions to deny coverage; we'll likely let the private sector continue to do what it does so well.
