FBI looks for 'Scarecrow Bandit' in connection with bank robberies
The FBI is looking for a man it's calling the "Scarecrow Bandit," who's suspected of armed robberies at two Northwest suburban banks this summer.
He's being sought in connection with a July 18 robbery at First Eagle Bank, 1040 E. Lake in Hanover Park, and a June 20 robbery at the Citibank branch at 2550 N. Sutton Road in Hoffman Estates.
During the Hoffman Estates incident, the suspect wore a green and tan camouflage floppy hat and a blue and white plaid shirt, with mud smeared on his face used to conceal his identity. He fled in a bank teller's car with an undetermined amount of cash. Police later recovered the vehicle in a nearby vacant field.
In both robberies, the suspect threatened bank employees and customers with a sawed off wooden broom stick, according to the FBI.
In the July Hanover Park robbery, he ordered the lone teller on duty to give him all the money in her drawer and placed it in a dark colored cloth bag, the FBI says.
No one was reported injured in either robbery.
He is described as a white male, 40 to 45 years old, 6 feet tall and 250 pounds, with a large build and dark hair.
