New cancer treatment available in Elmhurst

ELMHURST - As part of a $6 million project, a new cancer treatment facility, CyberKnife Center of Chicago, is set to open Monday, Aug. 10, on the campus of Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.

The center will house the first new generation CyberKnife system, providing about 9.5 million residents access to advanced cancer treatment with the world's first and only robotic radiosurgey system.

The new machine features a higher energy source than previous machines, which allows for enhanced calculations of radiation doses and planning. It also includes a device that controls the size of the radiation beam.
