Australian takes men's pro title at Tour of Elk Grove

Australian Karl Menzies beat out more than100 professional cyclists to become the $25,000 overall winner Sunday of the three-stage men's pro race at the Alexian Brothers Tour of Elk Grove race this weekend.

The three-stage men's pro race featured $152,500 in total prize money making it the largest prize purse for a three-day, three-stage men's pro cycling race in the world.

Menzies competed as a member of Team Ouch. Placing second overall in the fourth annual event and winning $12,000 was American Brent Bookwalter of the BMC Racing team. Third place and $6,000 went American Tom Zirbel, a member of Bissell Pro Cycling team.

The individual pro men's stage winners were Zirbel (first at Friday's Stage 1 time trial of 4.5 miles), Sebastian Haedo (first at Saturday's Stage 2 road race of 150K), and Australia Jonathan Cantwell (first at Sunday's Stage 3 criterium of 110K).

Tour of Elk Grove featured nearly $200,000 in total cash prize money for the 15 professional and amateur races in Elk Grove Village, drawing an estimated 15,000 spectators and more than 700 cyclists.
