Arlington Heights-area man shot dead in Chicago
Chicago police are looking for clues in the death of 35-year-old suburban man found shot in the head early Sunday morning.
The Cook County medical examiner's office has identified the victim as Patrick Cregan, giving his address as on the first block of 9th Avenue, Arlington Heights.
Chicago police spokesman Michael Fitzpatrick said officers responded around 4:15 a.m. to a report of shots fired near the intersection of California Avenue and Le Moyne Street. When they arrived, they found a vehicle with windows shattered and a bullet hole on the vehicle's trunk. The vehicle had crashed into a chain-link fence on the 1400 block of North California.
Fitzpatrick said the officers approached the vehicle and saw the victim sitting in the driver's seat with a gunshot wound to the head.
The report didn't say how many shots were fired. Nor did the report name any witnesses.
"We don't even know if it's gang related or what the motive was," Fitzpatrick said.
The body was turned over to the Cook County medical examiner's office. An official at the office said the body will be examined Monday morning.
