DuPage County briefs
Police to monitor Ogden:
Area police will conduct a traffic safety campaign Aug. 4 along 35 miles of Ogden Avenue, authorities announced Wednesday. The crackdown will include portions of DuPage, Kane and Kendall counties and is aimed at increasing safety through education and traffic enforcement. Their efforts will concentrate on speed and seat-belt violations.
Lane reduction planned:
Traffic on 75th Street in Naperville will be reduced to one lane from Washington Street to Clyde Drive from Aug. 4 through Aug. 6, weather permitting. The lane reduction will be in effect from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Motorists should expect delays. The lane reduction is required to conduct utility work related to the 75th and Washington intersection improvement project that is slated for completion in late 2010.
Fest seeks young filmmakers:
The Naperville Independent Film Festival is seeking entries from young filmmakers ages 8 to 16 for the Film Festival Jr. Film Contest. Films submitted for the contest should be 40 minutes or shorter. Selected films with G and PG ratings will be shown at the Film Festival Family Day on Sept. 20 at the Holiday Inn Select, 1801 N. Naper Boulevard, Naperville. Those who wish to enter their films may visit www.NaperFilmFest.org for entry rules. Submissions are due Sept. 5.
Stores donate to MADD:
Several area Sports Clips, including one in Carol Stream, helped raise $3,000 for Mothers Against Drunk Driving. The employees worked over several weeks to collect the money in their stores for MADD's Northeast Illinois Region.
Police win accolades:
The Carol Stream Police Department finished third in the 2008 Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge, which recognizes excellence in traffic safety. The department will receive the award at a ceremony Aug. 12. The program is coordinated by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police and asks for submissions of department policies, training and public information campaigns.
