Wolves sign Pohl, former NHL player

The Chicago Wolves have signed center Johnny Pohl.

The 30-year-old forward split last season between Lugano of the Swiss League and Vastra Frolunda of the Swedish Elite League, racking up 29 assists and 37 points in 34 outings between the two clubs.

Pohl spent three seasons with the National Hockey League's Toronto Maple Leafs prior to signing abroad, collecting 17 goals, 21 assists, 38 points and 24 penalty minutes in 114 outings from 2005 to 2008, which includes a career-high 13 goals, 16 assists and 29 points in 74 matchups during the 2006-07 campaign. He also appeared in one game with the St. Louis Blues in 2003-04.

The Rochester, Minn., native, has also amassed 81 goals, 102 assists and 183 points in 196 career American Hockey League outings with the Worcester IceCats (2002-05) and Toronto Marlies (2005-06).

Prior to going pro, Pohl spent four seasons at the University of Minnesota from 1998 to 2002, tallying 200 points (71G, 129A) in 165 career matchups with the Golden Gophers.
