Pedestrian struck by train at Highland Park Metra station

A 49-year-old woman was injured when she struck by a Metra train early Wednesday in Highland Park, police officials said.

Highland Park police Cmdr. George Pfutzenreuter said the woman was hit by the southbound Union Pacific North Line train 300 at 4:43 a.m. just north of the Elm Place crossing.

Pfutzenreuter said the woman, who is from Highland Park, survived and was taken to Evanston Hospital where she is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Train 300, which was scheduled to arrive at Ogilvie Transportation Center in Chicago at 5:23 a.m., was held up until police released it after the investigation at 5:24 a.m., he said.

Passengers on the train at the time were asked to get off at Highland Park and board train 302. That train was scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 6:15 a.m., but was about 30 minutes late, Metra officials said.

Most trains on the Union Pacific North Line were delayed about 30 minutes until about 10 a.m., officials said.

Pfutzenreuter said police are still investigating to determine what happened.
