Fire strikes Antioch home, no injuries, cause unknown

No one was injured in a fire that caused extensive damage to a house in Antioch's old California subdivision, firefighters said Wednesday.

Antioch Fire Lt. Chris Lienhardt said firefighters were called to the 4100 block of Fifth Street at 7:51 p.m. Tuesday with a report of fire inside the home.

He said heavy smoke was visible at the south and west sides of the home when firefighters arrived.

The residents and all pets - including three fish - escaped without injury. Also, no firefighters were injured while battling the blaze.

Lienhardt said the fire was extinguished in 15 minutes, and crews were on the scene for two hours ensuring the fire had not spread through the walls.

The home was deemed uninhabitable and the homeowners were relocated.

Investigators are reviewing the fire, but there is no indication the fire was intentional, he said.
