Aurora police question two in shooting

Aurora police are questioning two people in connection with a shooting Tuesday that left an 11-year-old injured.

Police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said officers responded to the 800 block of Gillette Avenue on the city's near west side for a call of shots fired about 9:20 p.m.

He said police found an 11-year-old female with a gunshot wound to the shoulder, and a 27-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm.

Both were taken to an Aurora hospital by the Aurora Fire Department for treatment of nonlife threatening injuries, he said.

He said it appears the two were on the porch of a house when the shots were fired from across the street.

Ferrelli said a 19-year-old from North Aurora and a 20-year-old from Aurora were taken into custody shortly after the shooting by officers searching the area.

He said both men were arrested without incident in a backyard in the 800 block of North May Street after initial questioning.

Neither man has been charged in connection with the shooting, Ferrelli said, but the 19-year-old was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant.

Ferrelli said police are still trying to determine a motive.
