Republicans proving that less is more

Kudos to Republican governors Mark Sanford of South Carolina and Sarah Palin of Alaska for living up to their conservative credo of less government.

Gov. Sanford made sure that he left the state of South Carolina whenever he engaged in a romantic tryst, which meant that during his absence less government was being provided at the state's highest level. While Sanford may have failed in his attempt to turn down federal economic stimulus money earmarked for his state, he proved much more successful at seeking his own form of stimulation elsewhere.

Sarah Palin, the ambitious former mayor of Wasilla, Alaska (whose population grew beyond 5,000 during her tenure) moved on to Juneau on a promise of less government. She is fulfilling this vow by quitting her office with just under a year and a half left to serve, thereby providing one-third less government than she otherwise would have had she completed her first term.

Palin-Sanford in 2012!
