Charges in bank heist:
A Waukegan man has been charged in the July 17 robbery at NorStates Bank, 216 Madison Ave., Waukegan. Michael S. Schwartz, 45, of the 500 block of Franklin, is charged with bank robbery, Waukegan police said. Schwartz was arrested Monday after he was identified as a suspect in the robbery. He's also a suspect in a July 18 attempted robbery at a Waukegan convenience store, police said, but no charges have been filed in that case.
Summer Fun Friday is back:
Barrington is closing South Cook Street downtown for the village's second annual Summer Fun Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m. July 24 in front of Egg Harbor Cafe. Great food, beer, wine and a free concert are in store for attendees. Roquemore, Barrington's own Rock 'n Roll band, will provide two hours of classic tunes from the steps of Egg Harbor Cafe. Food and drinks will be available for purchase from 111 Grille and Sergio's Pizza. Bean bag games will be out again for some friendly competition, and prizes from local merchants will be awarded. Organic cooking:
An organic cooking demonstration is set for 10 a.m. today as part of MainStreet Libertyville's weekly farmer's market. Melissa Ritter, a chef, educator and consultant, focuses on local and sustainable produced food. The market runs from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Church Street between Milwaukee and Brainerd avenues and features 28 vendors selling a variety of items including organic vegetables, freshly baked bread, produce, fruits and flowers.
