Literacy group tutors youth this summer
Is your child having trouble keeping up in school in reading and math?
If so, you may want to enroll him or her in the Literacy Connection's Summer Youth Tutoring Program, which begins next week. Admission is handled on a rolling basis, so students can enroll at any time through Aug. 3.
The Literacy Connection works primarily with adults who need to learn to read or speak English, but in the summer, they provide one program specifically geared to elementary-aged children. Summer Youth Tutoring is for any child who is below grade level in reading and/or math who will be entering first through fifth grade in the fall. The children are tutored by specially trained teen tutors under the supervision of a certified teacher.
The Summer Youth tutoring program runs on Mondays through Thursdays from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at The Literacy Connection's office inside the Salvation Army's Carpentersville Service Center at Meadowdale Mall. Classes continue through Aug. 14. Children will be accepted into the program on a rolling basis. The cost is $60 for the entire program, and will be prorated according to the child's start date in the program.
