Exelon ramps up LaSalle 1 reactor to 31 percent capacity
Exelon Corp. ramped up the LaSalle 1 reactor in Illinois to 31 percent after it began generating power to the grid late yesterday, according to a report from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
The unit was taken offline July 18 so workers could replace a seal on a pump that circulates water through the reactor, Adam Slahor, a spokesman, said in an e-mailed statement yesterday.
The unit is one of two reactors at the LaSalle station, 75 miles southwest of Chicago. LaSalle 1 can supply 1,118 megawatts to the grid and LaSalle 2 about 1,120 megawatts.
LaSalle 2 is operating at full capacity, according to the commission.
