Need to reserve not squander resources
At 7:25 a.m. July 11, while walking in nearby Community Park (serviced variously by Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn and Wheaton), I came upon a Wheaton grass cutter operating his mower. The grass was wet from the previous night's storm and certainly not in need of mowing.
These thoughts came to me: 1) the mower gets time and a half from Wheaton for working on Saturday. (I can't speak for his personal needs.) 2) we are despoiling the earth as we use petrochemical energy; and 3) much of the oil comes from nefariously ruled countries. I'm thinking particularly of Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia --- and Iraq. The latter is said to have Earth's second-largest known reserve.
It is no secret that this is why oilmen George W Bush and Dick Cheney put us where we are in Iraq. There is no connection between 9/11 and the invasion of Iraq. (Most of the hijackers came from Saudi Arabia.) The Iraqi incursion has put is deeply into debt and resulted in the deaths of thousands - Iranians and our brave service people. We need to conserve the resources of the earth, for ourselves and our posterity - not squander them.
