Sonic may come to Palatine

Plans are in the works to bring a Sonic to Palatine.

Developers want to build the fast food restaurant, known for its 1950s drive-in style of ordering, at the site of the soon-to-be razed Fuddruckers at 1151 E. Dundee Road.

On Monday, the village council approved a drive-through window and a change in the site plan.

The 1,700 square-foot Sonic wouldn't feature any indoor seating. Instead, patrons can use a drive-through, sit outdoors or pull their cars into a drive-in slot and be served by carhops on roller-skates.

A representative for franchisee Boom Enterprises said engineering plans will be submitted to the village this week.

A Sonic is under construction in Lake Zurich and already open in Algonquin, Bartlett and Aurora.
