No more free CTA cars for transit employees

Easy, free access to automobiles will soon no longer be an option for top Chicago Transit Authority employees.

CTA President Richard Rodriguez says he's ending the privilege some employees enjoyed of being able to take one of nearly 70 agency cars home at no cost.

A recent Chicago Sun-Times report raised questions about the practice in light of severe budgetary woes at the agency.

Rodriguez says he'll be among those who'll lose free use of CTA cars.

Starting soon, employees who want to take a car home will have to lease them for about $200 a month, plus the cost of gas.

The CTA has a total of around 11,000 workers. But only around 70 employees have had access to the cars.
