Movie a precursor to next year's Geneva Film Fest

Enjoy a free movie in Geneva's scenic River Park on Thursday, July 23. Presented by the Geneva Film Festival, "Movie on the Fox" will feature "Airplay: The Rise and Fall of Rock Radio," a documentary on rock radio of the 1950s and 1960s. The movie chronicles the story of a struggle between a handful of pioneers vs. powerful business and government interests for the soul of music radio, told by the DJs and the artists they made stars. The movie is rated PG-13 and runs one hour and 50 minutes.

"Airplay" will be shown at dusk on the bank of the Fox River, and movie-goers are invited to bring chairs, blankets and a picnic. In addition, Aurelio's pizza, soft drinks and popcorn will be available for purchase.

This screening is intended to be a family event, said Scott Rolf, committee vice chairman, and the purpose of Movie on the Fox is to raise awareness of the Geneva Film Festival, slated for April 15-17, 2010. Founded in 2007, the film festival has become a venue for independent filmmakers to showcase their craft.

Seating begins at 7:30 p.m. Pre-show entertainment includes performances by local band Sevenate 9 and State Street Dance Studio.

River Park is at 75 N. River Lane, just north of Riverside Receptions, in downtown Geneva. The Film Festival was founded by the Geneva Cultural Arts Commission in 2007. For information about "Movie on the Fox," visit genevafilmfestival.org.
