Two injured when woman drives car into front of Lake Zurich business

Two customers of a Curves fitness club suffered minor injuries Saturday morning after a woman drove her 2002 Buick through the front of the business at 41 S. Rand Road in Lake Zurich, police said.

The two were taken to the Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Lake Zurich for treatment.

The 65-year-old driver was treated at the scene and released, said Lake Zurich Sgt. Robert Johnson. The driver's name is being withheld pending the investigation's outcome, Johnson said.

Police do not suspect drugs or alcohol played a part in the accident, which occurred about 10 a.m. as the woman was pulling into a parking place, Johnson said.

"It appears at this time there was some confusion" that caused her to accelerate instead of brake, Johnson said.

The car crashed through two large panes of glass.

"The front of the store is gone from floor to ceiling," said Johnson.

Window coverings were destroyed but no equipment was damaged, he said. No estimate of damage was available.

The Curves club remains closed pending a structural inspection on Monday.
