Surprised by Hatch in Sotomayor hearing

I was surprised to see Sen. Orrin Hatch on the first day of the Sotomayor hearing accuse her of being racist. This is the same Sen. Orrin Hatch who muscled Clarence Thomas through the same committee to get him affirmed as a justice of the Supreme Court. The same Sen. Orrin Hatch who viciously, verbally attacked the credibility of attorney Anita Hill and other women Thomas worked with at the Department of Education, who testified personally or in written form, as to Thomas's sexual harassment of them during their working together.

Sen. Hatch obviously found Thomas's illegal and immoral behavior to be quite acceptable, yet he can't embrace Judge Sotomayor for doing nothing more than having 17 years on the bench and making a few comments that can easily be twisted as only an astute politician can do. It appears Sen. Hatch and other Republican senators slice and dice fair, moral and legal issues coming before them in accordance with how close they adhere to their political principles and agenda.

Another example of why the people don't trust our politicians. We just can't believe what they say, what they do or their motives.
