Police: Vandals topple more than 150 tombstones

ELDORADO -- Authorities are trying to identify the vandals who knocked over more than 150 tombstones in two graveyards in southern Illinois' Saline County.

Investigators say the damage was discovered Wednesday morning in Wolf Creek Cemetery and the nearby St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery near Eldorado.

Eldorado Police Chief Shannon Deuel (DOO'-uhl) says the aftermath looked like someone had rolled a giant bowling ball through the graveyard.

Cemetery workers have put the tombstones back in place. But Deuel has a warning to the vandals -- each toppled tombstone amounts to a possible felony charge.

Anyone with information is being asked to call Eldorado or Saline County authorities.
