Please explain health-care plan

OK. So everyone is going to get health insurance and it will "only" cost the U.S. taxpayers $600 billion to get a government-backed program that will expand coverage, provide high quality care to everyone, and cost less money.

Huh? What am I missing? Exactly where does the "cost less" part come from? No one has ever explained that part to me very well. Is my hospital actually going to charge less now for my stay? Will the drug company accept less for my prescription medications or chemotherapy treatments? Is my doctor bill for surgery going to go down?

Or I guess we're all going to be so much "weller" that we (or, I should say, the insurance plans) are going to spend less money on those things and charge us less for the insurance coverage. Right? Or not? Does anyone know? Could you explain it to me, please?
